CAREER RESEARCH OF INTERIOR DESIGN

1. Brief Description:

The reasons I chose interior design:

When I was in high school, I had a great interest in design. Honestly, I have to say that I

am the one who appreciate arts and value beautiful things. I designed many things such as my

room, T-shirts, logos, houses, Harry Potter wands, etc. However, in those days, I was unsure to

make a decision for my career in future. I was indecisive in graphic design, architecture and

interior design.

When my family built a new house when I was in grade 12, my parents gave me a chance

to design and decorate our home in my perspective. I was extremely passionate in doing these

things, I moved furniture around into layouts and floorplans, new arts on the walls and I arranged

my bookcases, windows, sofa, tables, chairs. I chose texture, color, lighting and factors combine

and interact to make a space eye-catching and pleasing. I went to interior supplied stores to find,

watch, made choices. I felt free and happy when I paid all my effort for my house. Therefore, I

decided to choose interior design as my career. I want to study how a space is planned and then

presented by digital illustration and in real life. I want to design functional, unique furniture to

devote for interior discipline in the future. This field is a an opportunity for me to express

creativity, it is crucial to possess certain charecteristics in making interior. In addition, interior

design is potential for me to create my own brand as an independent designer in the future.

What does this career do?

Plan, design, and furnish interiors of residential, commercial, or industrial buildings.

Formulate design which is practical, aesthetic, and conducive to intended purposes, such as

raising productivity, selling merchandise, or improving life style. May specialize in a particular

field, style, or phase of interior design.

Typical Tasks:

+ Confer with client to determine factors affecting planning interior environments, such

as budget, architectural preferences, and purpose and function.

+ Advise client on interior design factors such as space planning, layout and utilization of

furnishings or equipment, and color coordination.

+ Coordinate with other professionals, such as contractors, architects, engineers, and

plumbers, to ensure job success.

+ Review and detail shop drawings for construction plans.

+ Estimate material requirements and costs, and present design to client for approval.

+ Subcontract fabrication, installation, and arrangement of carpeting, fixtures,

accessories, draperies, paint and wall coverings, art work, furniture, and related items.
