The age requirement is 18 years or older, and you must be physically able to work. Most of the time, you have to pass substance abuse screening. You then take three to four years of training. That is about 144 hours of paid technical training, and 2,000 hours of paid on-the-job training. When you are done, you’ll be a certified construction carpenter.
Salary and Pay
In Alaska, the pay is very different than the lower forty-eight. The yearly median for Alaskan carpenters is $62,500. In the lower 48, it is $39,900 per year. Alaskan workers get paid about $30 an hour. Everywhere else, it is about $19 an hour. So being a construction carpenter in Alaska is better than anywhere else, they get a higher pay.
