Case Study: Faith Community HospitalThe Faith Community Hospital has concerns about their growing problems within the hospital. These problems are their mission statement, ethical medical practices, and costs to run the hospital. The executives of Faith Community Hospital have been tasked with how to solve these problems. They must frame the problems, make the decisions, and evaluate those decisions for the betterment of the hospital. Their decisions will need to be presented to the Board of Directors of the Faith Community Hospital prior to implementation to receive approval for their changes. This task will require the executives to identify the problem, define objectives for the problem, evaluate the effects of the problem, identify the causes of the problem, frame alternatives, evaluate the impacts of the alternatives, make the decision, implement the decision, and measure the impacts of their decision. This will be no easy feat for the executives of Faith Community Hospital. [Well developed.]The first problem facing the executives at Faith Community Hospital is their mission statement. The mission statement currently reads:With the foundation and commitment of our spiritual heritage and values, our mission is promote the health and well-being of the people in the communities we serve through a comprehensive continuum of services provided in collaboration with the partners who share the same vision and values (University of Phoenix, n.d.).[Excellent formatting.]The problem with this statement is that it can have multiple meanings and is therefore unclear to certain people and many members within the Board of Directors for Faith Community Hospital. The executives' goal for this problem would be to rework the mission statement into one that is more easily understood by all in the community. The effects of this problem is the people do not understand what Faith Community Hospital is about and what they strive to provide to the society they live in. The cause of this problem is simple the mission statement is unclear. An unclear mission statement sets the mood for how people perceive your organization, this confuses people so they may assume your organization is confusing. In order to solve this problem the executives suggest holding a brainstorming session, with the Board of Directors, to rethink the mission statement. This will allow the Board of Directors for Faith Community Hospital to have input into the new mission statement for the hospital and therefore find little to no fault with the statement in the end. The executives might also suggest using a criteria matrix to determine the new mission statement. This would allow the Board of Directors to determine what they feel the statement should say without having to come up with the actual statement.
