Every now and then our world experiences disasters and destructions such as floods, tornadoes, earthquakes, firestorms, typhoons, volcanic eruptions, landslides, mudflows, tsunamis, droughts, thunderstorms, droughts, wars, terrorism, snow or winter storms, and even accidents such as car crashes, railroad or ship accidents, and building collapsing. How is it possible that people can survive these disastrous situations? Well, nowadays technology has improved and people can now develop ways to prevent these disasters and to survive in these situations.
Take for example, the flood that has recently occurred in Thailand. It might be common for floods to happen in Thailand since it rains a lot but this flood has been different. The flood has reached a high that people have bought boats to float across. Many people have lost their homes and properties because of the flood. Some people even put their pets, cats and dogs, in animal shelters to keep them safe. Bangkok has been quite safe from the flood due to being informed earlier than expected so that people can prepare just in case the flood happens by buying supplies such as canned tuna and mackerel, bottles of water, rolls of tissue paper, cartons of milk, wooden or rubber/plastic boats (which is optional), instant noodles, etc. It is also good that Bangkok was informed before the flood actually occurred in the city, so people can be safe and prevent the flood. This is a good preparation before floods.
Earthquakes, which are the trembling of the Earth violently, are dangerous. They can lead to the collapse of buildings, falling rocks or bricks that can hit people's heads, and even tsunamis. To prevent this, it is important that you stay where you are and avoid standing. It is a good tactic to drop down on your knees and hands and cover your head, and to hide under tables or other shelters to prevent things falling on you. Also, if you are at home, don't run outside or move around because it can lead to injuries if you do.
Imagine you are in a place where water is limited in supply. What will you do if you have just run out of water, or the water is too limited, and you are dying of thirst? First of all, a drought like the example earlier is when there is little or no rain that leads to shortage of water, so it is obvious that the solution is to save water and avoid any activity that has to do with using up water. At home, the simple things you should do are to store some water for drinking, washing, etc. and use less water to take showers and brush teeth.
