Approximately 30,000 people die because of suicide a year, and 750,000 have attempted suicide. (“Suicide Causes”). There are many reasons people are committing suicide such as drug abuse, low self-esteem, feeling helpless, any type of abuse, etc. People are committing suicide mainly because of bullying, abuse, and stress. Stress can come from a lot of different things, which makes some want to take their own lives. In 2010 there were 33,687 deaths from motor vehicles, and 38,364 from suicide ("Suicide Causes"). Suicide is becoming the “go to” from teenagers and young adults.They are committing, or attempting to commit suicide because they are either being bullied by someone at school, on the internet, at home, or in public. Some teenagers are put under a lot of pressure which could lead to stress.
Bullying is the leading cause of suicide. Suicide is the third leading cause of deaths among young people. Bullying results in about 4,400 deaths per year (“Bullying and Suicide”). Bullying someone doesn’t just have to be making fun of the person. There is all different kind of bullying, there is cyber bullying, physical bullying, emotional bullying, etc. 43% of kids have been bullied online that has led to suicide (“11 Facts about Suicide”). So many people are being bullied, but do not want to say anything thing or tell anyone, but they need to get help. Some people do not think what they say to others is hurting or damaging, but to others it can be destroying them and making them feel like suicide will end the hurt that being bullied constantly is causing. A few words can either make or break a person, even if they say they are okay. “In 70% of all teen suicides, another teen knew about it and did nothing” (Portner). Emotinal abuse, is another form of bullying. Emotional abuse can sometimes be just as bad as physical abuse. People who have been abused learn to mimic the abusers words in their own minds, and consequently put themselves down every chance they get (Mayfield). Suicide is also happening because of relationship.
Break ups/relationship problems tend to lead teens to commit suicide. Some people are getting physical abuse by being in the wrong relationship. Suicidal behavior might be associated with involvement in less extreme forms of violent behaviors such as physical fighting, which might be a risk factor for more severe forms of violence (Capldi). Girls think and try to commit suicide twice as often as guys do, but guys commit suicide four times as often as girls. Girls are often associated in drama with other girls, whether it be in school, or via social media. Drama is a leading cause of depression, because you start to feel unwanted or unloved. Being physically abused by someone you’re in a relationship with can hurt you to the point where you just want to give up and end your life.
