Céline Dion has been endued with one of music's greatest voices. She has even crossed barriers language with her series of international hits. With each new release Céline has managed to top her previous successes and singing in French for her Canadian and European fans, Céline Dion has also managed to make a name for herself in the American charts, recording English versions of her hits. Céline has become one of the brightest stars in the world of pop music. Who would have imagined that this Quebec born girl would conquered the world the way she has.Céline Marie Claudette Dion was born a large French-Canadian family March 30, 1968 in Charlemagne, Quebec province, Canada. She is the youngest of fourteen children. Céline grew up with music all around her: her parents had a pianobar in the city; her mother played the violin, her father played the accordion and her brothers and sisters sang and served at the tables. Celine began singing at the young age of 5 and recorded her first demo by age 12. Célines mother and one of her brothers assembled a demo tape which found its way to the offices of local pop manager and promoter René Angélil (born on January 16, 1942), who cried during Céline's audition due to her magnificent voice. René paid for her first album recording, mortgaging his own house.Céline began to receive recognition for her talent in 1982, winning the Gold Medal at the Yamaha World Song Festival in Tokyo, along with the coveted Musician's Award for Top Performer. In 1983, she became the first Canadian ever to receive a Gold Record in France. The streak of recognition had only just begun. By 1988, Céline had established a strong name for herself in her native province of Québec, where she was enjoying superstar status, receiving numerous Felix Awards and racking up platinum albums.The same year, Céline won the prestigious Eurovision Song Contest in Dublin, Ireland, where she performed live before a television audience of 600 million viewers throughout Europe, the Middle-East, Japan, and Australia.Finally, in 1990, Dion issued Unison, her English-language debut (coming just a year after learning the language); the album produced a number of hits, among them "(If There Was) Any Other Way," "Where Does My Heart...
