Cell Phones Should Not be Banned From School
Today’s cell phone is the front line technology at our fingertips. Keeping this in mind the use of cell phones have become an affair when it comes to allowing teens to use them in educational environments, such as schools. One part of society supports the use of cell phones while the other part of society disapproves the use of cell phones. I personally believe that cell phones should not only be allowed in school, but cell phones should be mandatory just like a textbook. Another reason cell phones should be used in schools is because the students would be able to excel in their education. For example instead of using the clicker devise teachers could use cell phones as a cheaper alternative. In “The Journal” David Raths states that “if schools were to use cell phones instead of the clickers school would save an approximate of $1,250.00 on a classroom set.” The one way the cell phone could be used for example is if a teacher was using Poll Everywhere (an application that lets students use their phones instead of clickers) in her History class. As the students walk into the class room the teacher has already posted a question on the whiteboard about the cause of World War 1. The students then would text their answers in as soon as they get situated into their class and are able to watch the changing results displayed in a graph on the whiteboard, the graphing is part of the application that lets students interpret each other’s answers.
Some might say that using this method could actually wreck the student’s ability to learn because when students are asked to text in their answers they would actually start texting their friends and family, which would distract the students learning ability. While some might think this is a bad method, this is actually not. This is because in order to use this method teachers would be capable of seeing the cell phone screens on their computers. Therefore if students were to get side tracked they would easily get caught. That is why this method is good for students.

Cell phones should also be brought to school because for teens, cell phones gives them additional learning layers, beyond the traditional classroom text book. Laura Brown (the author of “When to Introduce Your child To a Smartphone or Tablet”) says that “cell phones provide students with multiple opportunities to access content and engage into the curriculum.” What Brown is saying is that the cell phones link students to the world after the four walls of their brick buildings (schools) and give them...
