Many children are involved in pageants, and many varieties of people have different opinions. Some people feel that they are good, others not so much. Opinions vary from person to person, and reasoning also varies. But, the real question for this topic is "are these pageants good for them in the long run?"
What comes to mind when the words "child beauty pageants" are spoken? What some people think about is, crazy moms pushing their daughters to win, and little girls dressing and to look like Barbie’s. Is this setting a good example for children? It teaches them that people are only judged by looks, not their personality. Instead the lesson they are learning is that looks are the only thing that matters.
Look at child beauty pageants. Notice that the girl’s childhood is filled with sparkly dresses and makeup. They are trying to grow up to fast and if they continue on this path they could turn out like a “special” celebrity. These kid’s faces have foundation, fake eyelashes with mascara, and bright lipstick. On top of that they are wearing clothes that aren’t appropriate for kids. If they continue to act the way they do now the next generation of girls to be total brats. Some psychology experts believe that these pageants are teaching children to act and dress about ten years above their age. Therefor child beauty pageants should be banned.
These five year olds are getting spray tans! These tans can cause cancer later on. Also the beauty pageants can cause eating disorders, these children want to be so skinny that they stop eating. Other girls get plastic surgery, so they can look prettier. Too much hairspray could stunt growth. The makeup that they are wearing can ruin their skin, in an overall sense they are turning into teenagers. If they don’t win they can become sore losers and throw temper tantrums.
Also I watched some videos on the Toddlers In Tiaras website about the parents and how they prepare for the pageants. One five-year-old girl said that her mom was driving her crazy. Another eleven-year-old said that her mom was a psyco. One mom started screaming at the judges for cutting her daughter. These moms are having their daughters eyebrows waxed, plucked, and shaved. Some girls are getting their legs shaved at age 7!
Some of these parents force their kids into the pageants. Also some of the parents take it way to far. These little girls are being forced to relive the childhood their mothers could never have. Many parents agree that to be able to wear makeup that girls should be about thirteen. These girls are wearing eyeliner at age five! Girls in at least eighth grade should wear makeup not kindergarten through first grade.
Other people and psychology experts say that child beauty pageants are good for them. They say that they can higher self esteem. These experts also say that they can meet a ton of new friends. Some psychology experts feel that the girls feel pretty in the dresses and makeup. Other people feel that beauty pageants...
