Child Psychology: Phonemic Awareness Test Essay

After asking my friend if I could obtain the use of her child Ibrahim, a pleasant 6-year-old child, to take a phonemic awareness test, she welcomed me to test the boy. He appeared to be considered average in my standards. I asked the boy if he, as well, would accept me quizzing him on phonemic awareness. Phonemic awareness is the ability to manipulate the sounds on words and to recognize that words are made up of a miscellaneous set of sounds. Subsequently, I found the result to the experiment of the phonemic awareness by grading the child on a scale one to five, a four or higher is a passing grade. When each mistake occurs, the more points will be deducted from him.
I initiated the experiment, on the word segmentation portion, the child was supposed to comprehend how many words are in a sentence. I asked him, “how many words are in the following sentence, ‘The-grass-is-green’” and he responded, “three” as a result it is erroneous. I believed that he was endeavoring but couldn’t accomplish this portion furthermore. He scored one out of five or a twenty- percent hence he did not pass that section. On the rhyme recognition part, Ibrahim was supposed to recognize if the following words rhyme. Example, rake and snake rhymes, so the answer is yes; hint and flip is a no. Ibrahim received a passing grade of four out of five. On the rhyme production portion, he was supposed to identify what word rhymes with a word that will be said to him. A model of this will be what word rhymes with far; some answers can be car, jar, mar, par, etc. I asked Ibrahim what word rhymes with bran, mut, day, fog, and hid. As a result, he passed this portion as well with four out of five for both parts of the rhyme region.
On the syllable portion, his grade was unusual. On the syllable blending part, which he was supposed to put together two different words and combine it to one, he passed by earning four out of five correct. I gave him questions like, “put together sail and boat. What word is it?” and he would respond, “sailboat.” On the syllable segmentation part you must break apart the syllables in a word. To the same extent, the word yellow could be broken up into yel/low. Words such as swimmer, peanut, and funny confused him causing him getting a two out of five. On the syllable deletion, the goal was to see if Ibrahim could say a compound word and notice that there is two in one. An example of syllable deletion is to say pancake without the pan. Resulting a three out of five on the syllable deletion. During questioning Ibrahim on the onset and rime, he certified himself on that region by a passing score of four out of five.
