Childhood obesity is becoming a growing problem among families in America. The current fast paced lifestyle that families are living does not help this situation. We have allowed our busy lifestyle to affect our children. Childhood Obesity can lead to a number of problems for our children. There are three main effects of childhood obesity. Some of the effects of Childhood obesity are rising health issues such as high blood pressure, and diabetes. Children who are overweight often have self-esteem problems. Also, children who are obese are more likely to fall victim to bullying.
Childhood obesity causes immediate and long term effects on health and well being. Being an overweight child puts them at greater risk for cardiovascular problems such as high blood pressure and high cholesterol. Overweight children are developing high blood pressure and diabetes at an early age. High blood pressure can be very dangerous if not treated. It can cause a stroke or a heart attack. Childhood diabetes is also a result of obesity. Diabetes is dangerous because like high blood pressure it can also cause other problems. Diabetes if not treated right can lead to blindness and possible amputation of limbs. Diabetes and High blood pressure are often found in adults. Access weight on the body can put a child at greater risk for bone and joint problems. Obesity can also put extra stress on the body and raises our risk for many cancers. These health issues can be very serious for little bodies.
Child hood obesity can lead to social and psychological problems. Children who are overweight often have poor self-esteem. They don’t like how they look. Children become very self-conscious. Good self-esteem is important in children. If they don’t feel good about themselves it can cause them to struggle in school. Children who struggle with low self-esteem do poorly in school, and have trouble focusing on classroom activities. They will fail in studies and become less motivated.
