As society should parents blame his or herself for not paying close attention to their children diets? Or continue to blame McDonalds? I believe that all parents should take charge into what their children eat; not saying everyone should go organic or become vegetarians. Personally when I see a small child around the age 10 or younger the size of a 36 year old, it makes me wonder do their parents care or even pay attention to the drastic weight changes that they seem to call “baby fat”. Baby fat is a term meaning childhood plumpness: the plumpness that some children develop when they are young but that disappears as they mature. Can overeating be a sin? Yes according to the bible. Gluttony is another word for overeating. Gluttony is excessive eating: the act or practice of eating and drinking to excess. In the bible it clearly states:
In Proverbs 23:20-21 warns us, “Do not join those who drink too much wine or gorge themselves on meat, for drunkards and gluttons become poor, and drowsiness clothes them in rags.” Proverbs 28:7 declares, “He who keeps the law is a discerning son, but a companion of gluttons disgraces his father.” Proverbs 23:2 proclaims, “Put a knife to your throat if you are given to gluttony.”
A well-known fast food restaurant is McDonalds. McDonalds is known for the good and bad. It is well-known for their food to be somewhat addictive, especially their famous chicken nuggets. In many years of living never knew someone could blame someone else for their child’s obesity. Well in 2003, a mother named, Ruth Rhymes attempted to sue McDonalds for her 15 year old son obesity problem. Gregory Rhymes the son of Ruth use to eat McDonalds burgers, fries and milkshakes several times every day. Gregory now weighs 400 pounds and has diabetes and his mother is blaming McDonalds. In the ABC news article Ruth Rhymes states “I had no idea that he was destroying his self," his mother said. "I had no idea." McDonalds saw this lawsuit as a “baseless” suit, meaning they didn’t have a strong case. McDonalds saw that they weren’t the only ones contributing to Ruth Rhymes son. At the end of the day whether McDonalds is the one to blame or not, child obesity is increasing rapidly.
Healthy Eating starts at a young age. It can be much easier to start feeding children healthier choices when they can’t choose. Healthy eating is very important to children even when in the womb. A pregnant lady diet is most important to keep herself and the infant in great health. Healthy eating does not have to be plain and boring. According to Professor Mary Rudolf from the University of Leeds commends Wen and colleagues’ study for its engagement of young mothers in preventing obesity. I believe with that being said if we start educating the mothers way before their child or children hit the obese rate, this epidemic could slowly fade away. According to “Healthy eating advice for new mothers can help cut out child obesity” first few years of a child's development are...
