Choosing Favorites Essay

710 words - 3 pages

Throughout many texts, people are able to pick out which characters they like the best. Many choose their favorite characters due to the similarity of traits that they have in common with them. Others may distinguish their favorite character just because they find them interesting and entertaining. Some people may like the silliness that a character portrays and others prefer characters that have more seriousness. For example, in the popular story of Winnie the Pooh, there is a wide range of different personalities. Winnie is very calm and down to earth, Tiger is always excited, Eeyore is very sad and depressed, Piglet is cute and nice to be around, Rabbit is always annoyed by the rest of the characters, the Owl is very wise, and Christopher Robin is playful and young. Your own personality plays a big role on which character you like the best. In A Midsummer Night’s Dream, my favorite character would have to be Hermia because she wants to be independent, she has a strong character, and she is cautious.

Hermia is my favorite character in a Midsummer Night’s Dream because she wants to be independent. She doesn’t want to do what everyone tells her. She wants to do what she thinks is right. Hermia chooses not to listen to her father when he chooses Demetrius for her to marry because she does not love him, she loves Lysander. When Theseus and Egeus are speaking of Hermia having to marry Demetrius, Hermia replies, “So will I grow, so live, my lord, ere I will yield my virgin patent up unto his lordship whose unwished yoke my soul consents not to give sovereignty.” I like this trait that Hermia contains because I am like that too. I like to do things my way and not let others influence me. I don’t like to depend on others to do things or make decisions for me.

Hermia is also my favorite character in A Midsummer Night’s Dream because she has a strong character. She is confident in the decision she makes....
