Inefficient communication within the boundaries of the organisation can result in several departmental conflicts which affect the business entity as a whole. In any organisation there are two different types of knowledge ‘namely explicit and tacit knowledge’ (Nonaka and Takeouchi, 1995). Tacit knowledge is unconventional and personal obtained by practice or experience by an individual whereas explicit knowledge is a conventional form of knowledge procured in a document or a database acquired by copyrights and patents.
The main perspective is to identify the problems which occur while accumulating the relevant information required is by implementing the different approaches to eliminate the barriers as successful transfer of knowledge depends upon the processes and internal structure of an organisation. As Fiol & Lyles (1985) state that organizational knowledge is defined as the way the organizations construct, accumulate and establish knowledge and practices around their business events and business principles, as well as the way they accept and improve organizational proficiency by enlightening the use of wide abilities of their employees by the different methods available. A new method can be adopted to improve efficiency in communication by increasing team-work, procuring more value-driven management and decentralization of work, also the management needs to limit the number of rules applicable in the firm. This will not allow the knowledge to be available with only one individual or team, and by sharing the information among the department an organisation can become successful. However, (Nick, 1996) suggests that business oriented managers should implement steps to ensure that the information required is flowing and should be able to identify which information is not required for another teams. This can lead to avoiding unnecessary work involved in handling the unwanted information which can lead to confusion.
Secondly, management can adopt to overcome the issue of knowledge sharing among the inter department by boosting the morale of an employee and motivating them with rewarding and recognizing them for sharing the knowledge they possess and hence converting the employees learning into organisational learning. As per Clarke (2009) constant incentives could develop a good team along with sharing knowledge and learning within an organisation. This can further be complimented by the idea of (Lam and Lambermont-Ford, 2010) who states that the top hierarchy of any organisation can boost information sharing by rewarding and in turn motivating the employee’s to share among the departments. By the constant motive of knowledge sharing through the experienced personnel’s the organisation can develop a conscious environment where knowledge sharing becomes a cultural part of the organisation or may also refer it as a ‘trend’. Similarly, at the time of performance review an organisational should reward their employees based on the feedback from other departments as who devote maximum of their time in helping their colleagues and add knowledge...
