Team C has developed a number of solutions, as a leader we must know how to resolve problems that arise with employees such as managing conflict, handling any communication challenges with team members, or addressing communication needs within an organization. Tina was guilty of the silence barrier. She chose not to share her social media ideas. Confidence is the issue here. In a private meeting I would inform her how important her ideas are to the group and the organization. I would remind her of previous accomplishments and creativity skills in a manner that increases her confidence levels. In addition, I would also address the group and remind them of how important it is for each member to express their ideas and encourage/listen to others ideas.
A large part of my job as a human resources NCO in the Army, is to report a variety of metrics on our unit’s work force. These metrics deal with training, medical status, administrative actions, personnel actions, etc. The overall theme behind these metrics is mission readiness. The commander needs know whether the unit is mission capable should we be deployed. By filtering information to my commander, I am giving him the impression that we are mission capable and ready to go when in fact we are not. In turn, he reports this inaccurate information to the colonels and generals above him. Now there is a possibility of our unit deploying to a situation and area that we are not prepared or staffed to handle.
In the scenario of Storybook 2, relaying an important negative message without creating negativity or instilling as little negative impact as possible to a team as well as others in the organization is important. The following describes the method that could be used in order to promote the change in a positive way to the group. This method describes how also to deflect the negativity of the message, when delivered.
In order to disseminate the message if possible, address the group as a whole in a meeting. At the meeting, being completely upfront about the negative message the best way is to handle the communication. Group meetings allow for all members of the group to hear the message at one time. It is also important for the leader delivering the message to have a positive approach about the message. Any emotions or moods of negativity from the delivery person detected by the group could expand the negativity of the group, thus the message delivery from a positive approach must be portrayed.
