The inclination toward God is a sentiment common to all of mankind, as all humans are born knowing that there is a higher power. In the Holy Quran, God says:
“Set your face steadily towards the true faith, turning away from all that is false, in accordance with the natural disposition which God has instilled into man. Nothing can change God’s creation. Such is the ever-true faith; but most people do not know it” (Quran 30:30).
In this verse from the Holy Quran, God is conveying how He has put in the heart of every human an inclination towards Him. It is, then, the individual who chooses either the straight path toward God or traverses a separate one. Islam, which calls humanity to the worship of one God and the belief in His messengers, has satisfied the hearts of many individuals seeking a genuine faith. Identified as the fastest growing religion in America, according to Naoual, E (2010), Islam has accumulated a substantial following, particularly from African Americans and the immigrant community. The next sections of my paper will be discussing how Islam has grown throughout America and has attracted numerous individuals
Islam, which is currently the fastest growing religion in America, is expected to increase by about 35% percent in the next 20 years. It is projected to increase from 1.6 billion in 2010 to 2.2 billion by 2030 world wide, according to new population projections by the Pew Research Center’s Forum on Religion & Public Life (Pew forum, 2011). The number of people of the Islamic faith living in Canada is expected to nearly triple in the next 20 years, from about 940,000 in 2010 to nearly 2.7 million in 2030. Muslims are expected to make up 6.6% of Canada’s total population in 2030, up from 2.8% today (Pewforum, 2011). Within a short period of time America has experienced a large number of conversions, more than most would expect. Surveys Conducted by the Council On American Islamic Relations concluded that 20,000 people convert each year, many of them females (Naoul, 2010). One question that might come to mind is, “what is making all these people convert to Islam?”
Naoul has stated that this drastic shift occurred after the September 11, 2001 events, when general interest in Islam flourished. However, many may think this would be an odd time for an individual to convert to a religion that has been under severe scrutiny. Nonetheless, a significant number of Americans are embracing Islam with women outnumbering men about four to one (Naoul, 2010).
Islam is one of the most dynamic and fastest growing religions in America, one certainly can affirm
The uptake in the rate of Islamic conversion might be eye-opening in America after such negative views of Islam but like its origin, Islam has always found its way into the hearts and minds of humanity. This is beautifully illustrated in the following excerpt from a speech:
“O king! We were plunged in the depth of ignorance and barbarism; we adored idols, we lived in unchastity,...
