‘’Cosmetic surgery is a medical procedure that alters normal structures of the body for cosmetic reasons.’’ (Davidson) Around 15 million people per year have some kind of cosmetic surgery. The purpose of cosmetic surgery is to change a body part that an individual is unhappy with. Cosmetic surgery is not medically necessary, but it does carry all risks of any surgery. There are many types of cosmetic surgery. Those are just a few of the ones who shouldn’t consider cosmetic surgery.
There are many reasons why a person shouldn’t have cosmetic surgery. It can be life threatening. You shouldn’t alter your body to make someone else happy, erase mistakes (scars), look younger, etc. You should never change the way you are for other people. If you are considering cosmetic surgery just to make yourself happy, think of alternatives. Think of a new hair style, new outfits, etc. Don’t just automatically pick cosmetic surgery without looking at other options. Having one surgery leads to other surgeries. It can become an addiction. After you have one surgery you will begin to find thing you think need to be corrected or made better. ‘’Before undergoing surgery ask yourself why you want to do this.’’ (D.Phil.) Do you really need surgery and for what good reason? Having cosmetic surgery doesn’t always give you what you want. You tell the surgeons what you want and they may give it to you. That’s not always the case. Sometimes you tell them what you want and you don’t get what you want. Those are the reasons you would go under the knife again. Nothing makes you perfect, not even plastic surgery. Cosmetic surgery can’t dig you out of an emotion crisis, make you look like a celebrity, and it can’t fix relationships, it can ruin them. Cosmetic surgery won’t make you look young forever. As your body gets older the worse you look due to the surgery.
There are good reasons to consider cosmetic surgery. This type of surgery is called reconstructive cosmetic surgery. Reconstructive surgery is a procedure done to restore a part of the body that was damaged due to an injury. If you have an injury that requires cosmetic surgery due to an accident. These accidents may include, car wreck, work injury, lab experiments, animal bites, sports, etc....
