When you hear the phrase “Plastic Surgery” what comes to mind? Maybe dangerous, and risky, or do you think about the scalpel and all the cutting and all the blood? I myself think about how it’s only for rich celebrities who have a couple extra hundreds of thousands of dollars to spend. We have a bad habit of overlooking all the good things that plastic surgery can achieve. From life altering surgeries and saving lives, by highly qualified surgeons, to giving people more confidence and getting rid of depression, plastic surgery provides all that and more. Despite the few risks and health problems that plastic surgery may cause, all the positive effects that it provides are well worth the risks.
Of the many positive effects that plastic surgery provides, a boosted confidence is probably the most common. We all say looks aren’t everything, but let’s admit it, if you are an attractive person you are much happier in life. Maybe you weren’t blessed with the best nose, or you have way too many wrinkles, whatever you may be unhappy with, plastic surgery could fix that problem and make you a much happier person. One of the most popular ways is through Botox. Originally Botox was used to treat nervous twitching of the eyelid, but now is also used to treat wrinkles. Botox treatment involves injecting a small amount of botulism into the wrinkled area to flatten it. Botox is poisonous in high doses, but in small doses it only affects the muscles being treated. Botox relaxes the muscles, thereby smoothing out the wrinkles. The effect usually lasts about six months, and the treatment can be repeated as needed. Another common surgery is an Eyelift surgery. Throughout your life fat around your eye is held in place by a membrane, that weakens as we age, allowing the fat to become visible as a "bag." Lower eyelid bags can be corrected in most cases without any external incisions or visible scars by using a surgical laser. The skin of the upper eyelid tends to droop with age. This problem also can be corrected with a laser-assisted upper eyelid lift. Laser eyelift surgeries usually involve little bleeding and bruising, and usually requires a short recovery period.
In the United States 26.2% of Americans ages 18 and older suffer from depression(Styles). With a quarter of the country down in the dumps, what could possibly help lower that percent? The answer is plastic surgery. If you have a great confidence and a high self esteem, why would you be depressed? You wouldn’t, so therefore plastic surgery could be one of the leading factors that lower such a high percentage of depression in the United States. Perhaps we should cover what has been mentioned in this paper.
So far we have covered that plastic surgery not only makes everyone feel better about themselves, it also lowers the depression percentage of America, which in return saves lives (Kessler). So with you feeling more confident and more outgoing, your ability to get dates would be much better. Recent...
