It is really our pleasure to serve the ELM family in the capacity of Counselors. As the school Counselors, we are available to help you and your child have a successful school year. We will work with students, parents, and teachers in a variety of ways, which are designed to provide students with the opportunity to learn and develop social, emotional, and academic skills for reaching their highest potential. Some of these ways are:•Small group meetings with students•Individual conferences with students•Consultations and conferences with students, parents, and teachers•Individual and group meetings with parentsRemember, whatever you talk about with the Counselors is confidential. Students are free to make an appointment or may be referred by a parent or teacher.You can look forward to our monthly contribution in the ‘Eagle Eyre.’ This month, we will be focusing on how to make Homework less work; which is a challenge for some of our students.First, make sure you understand the assignment. Write it down in your agenda or daily planner, and don’t be afraid to ask questions about what’s expected. It’s much easier to take a minute to ask the teacher during or after class than to worry or turn in wrong or incomplete work.Second, use any extra time you have in school to work on your homework. It’s tempting to hang out with friends during study periods, but the more work you can get done in school; the less you’ll have to do that night.Third, if you don’t finish your homework during school, think about how much you have left and what else is going on that day, and then budget your time. It’s a good idea to come up with some kind of homework schedule, especially if you are involved in After School Activities.Watch Where You WorkWhen you settle down to do homework or to study, where do you do it? Parked in front of the TV? In the kitchen, with the sound of dishes being cleared and your brothers and sisters yelling? Choose a comfortable desk where you can get away from noise and distractions.Get to WorkWhen you start your homework, tackle the hardest assignments first.
