We have all heard the phrase crack kills, that is an understatement.
What is crack? According to Webster’s dictionary it is “a potent form of cocaine that is obtained by treating the hydrochloride of cocaine with sodium bicarbonate to create small chips used illicitly usually for smoking”. According to Wikipedia, the definition of Crack crack cocaine is the freebase form of cocaine that can be smoked or shot up. The effects that crack has on the body are very alarming and makes people do stupid things they would not consider doing while not using, including stealing items to obtain money, any amount of money, selling their bodies like a cheap whore, or prostitution. The term crack whore comes to mind.
One gram of pure powder cocaine will convert to approximately 0.89 grams of crack. The DEA estimates that crack rocks are between 75 and 90 percent pure cocaine.
What is the difference between crack and cocaine?
Crack is made from cocaine in a process called “freebasing”, in which cocaine powder is cooked with ammonia or sodium bicarbonate (baking soda) to create rocks, chips, or chunks that can be smoked.
Cocaine is produced as a white chunky powder. It is sold most often in aluminum foil, plastic or paper packets, or small vials. Cocaine is chopped into a fine powder with a razor blade on a small mirror or some other hard surface, arranged into small rows called "lines," then quickly inhaled (or "snorted") through the nose with a short straw or rolled into paper money. It can also be injected into the blood stream. Cocaine can also serve as what I refer to as a lacing agent mixed with marijuana and smoked.
Why is crack such a dangerous drug? Crack is so dangerous because when it is smoked because it is rapidly absorbed into the bloodstream, lungs, and hits the brain so fast. The high that a user gets is so intense, but only last about 5 to 7 minutes. The rush from the intense feeling leaves the user wanting more and more and willing to do anything to obtain that high. The short and long-term effects of using crack are very alarming; the short term as compared with cocaine is that it is an almost instant high. Anxiety, heightened energy, restlessness, hallucinations, extreme paranoia, delusions, disturbed sleep patterns, and not to mention what it does in breaking down every organ in your body with long term users such as , possible heart attacks,...
