Topic: The History of Rock
General Purpose: To inform
Specific Purpose: To inform the changes of rock over the decades
Thesis: Rock music has changed immensely over the years that we can no longer classify all rock under the rock genre. There are dozens of subgenres that can classify as rock music.
I. Every one of you guys in this class have a favorite genre of music that you tend to listen to more than any other. (I will then ask a few what their music choice is) Well today I am going to get into the rock genre and how it has changed over the years.
II. Music like us is aging. Every year the way music is made and sound is different than the year before. There are so many genres and sub genres in any type of music really. There is rock and roll, classical rock, early 50’s rock, alt rock, punk rock…I can go on and on but I’ll stop there. I have always been in love with music and all the shapes and sizes it comes in. My favorite for as long as I can remember has been rock. Something about it just touches my soul and can change my mood in .01 seconds.
III. Rock has its very own timeline on the way it has changed. I am going to focus on the early creators of rock, the 60s through the 90s, and finally the present-day versions of rock.

Many seem to forget that Elvis is not the only one who supposedly created rock ‘n’ roll. There are many other key contributors like Chuck Berry, Big Joe Turner, Muddy Waters, The Platters but it doesn’t stop there.

This band came together in 1952 and this band created a lot of attention for rock n roll and soon after this many others started to follow the idea of Bill Haley and His Comets.
[The inspiration of rock music had a lot to do with what was going on in and around the world at the time]
II. Rock music in the 60s and 70s had a lot to do with they’re surroundings and society at that time. This was also the peak of psychedelic drugs and the age of the hippies which also had a big impact on the music. Thus, emotions had bands crating music that is going to be listened to for a very long time. As people are still listening today and its nearly 40 years old. Being that rock changes variously...
