A refreshing rain had just bathed the earth. The weather was now clear and the first rays of sunshine were starting to peep through the clouds again. Xavier was walking home from school. He had reached his block and was walking to the lift lobby when he heard a kitten mewing piteously. This was followed by squeals of laughter coming from the same corner. Xavier immediately knew that the neighbourhood gangsters were abusing another stay kitten again. Although his timid nature whispered out to him to mind his own business, his heart went out to the poor kitten and that compassion nudges him to step forward and put an end to its suffering.Mustering up all his courage, Xavier walked up to the two teenagers. As he got closer, what he saw made him cringe in disgust. The kitten was whimpering in fear as it huddled in the corner. A few rubber bands were wound tightly around its tail, almost cutting off the blood supply to its tail. One of the teenagers, Ben, was puffing away on his cigarette. When he had finished smoking, he used the kitten's body as an ashtray by putting out the cigarette on its delicate body. The kitten winced in pain and tried to escape from the tortune but the other gangster, Ken, prevented it from running away by holding on to its injured tail/Indignant at the way they were treating the helpless kitten, the righteous spark in Xavier was ignited and he decided to confront the gangsters. He knew Ben and Ken as they lived in the same block as him.
