CT 2 cultural analyses
Security culture can be defined as behavior, values, assumptions that ensure information security (dhillon). Information can be seen as a basic need which is crucial and important for the well-being of modern organizations, mostly organizations fail because they are not able to access their information resources. The need is to protect the information both from external and internal threats that exist in today’s world. Information security has a broad scope with internal, external and technical constraints as explained in the fried egg analogy (dhillon 2006). As human is considered to be the weakest link in the organization, it becomes important to secure and manage organizational information resources, most of the problems that are experienced in information security can be directed towards the humans involved in the process. Management and employees are negligent and lack knowledge which leads to creating the weakest link and the most dangerous threat to information security. The majority of the approaches try to deal with the human factors in information security which fosters an information security culture within an organization, although the current approaches try to adjust the existing generic model(s) which are used to define the organizational culture which specifies the needs of information security. There are two factors that are considered in the human factor namely behavior and knowledge these dimensions are inter related and should be established in such a way that the security culture in the organization is successfully functioning.
