DACA is a widely used program that allows for immigrated children to stay pursuing
their dreams in America. It was established several years ago and has been running strong ever
since. Unfortunately, in 2016 when Trump was doing his presidential campaign, he announced
that he had plans as president to end the program. This caused immigrated children and their
parents to be unhappy because they were relying on this program to protect them from getting
deported back to their original country. In order to protect these children who have been here all
of their life, DACA should continue running and not be removed by the government.
DACA is a program for immigrant children who have lived in America for the majority
of their lives. These children were taken over the border unwillingly by their parents and have
never seen a country besides America. The acronym DACA stands for Deferred Action on
Childhood Arrivals. According to Caitlin Dickerson, “The program was introduced in 2012 by
President Barack Obama as a stopgate measure that would shield from deportation people who
were brought into the United States as children.” Daca has been continuously growing ever since
its birth in 2012 with a total of “787,580 participants in 2016” (Walters). Most DACA members

life that they always wanted and dreamed of.
Ever since DACA was started by President Obama in 2012, citizens of the United States
have had mixed emotions about it. Democratic supporters have agreed with the program and
believe that it should not be removed, and Republican supporters have disagreed with the
program and have wanted it removed. In 2016, when Trump announced DACA’s removal,
supporters of the program have became upset and accused the government of handling the
situation poorly. According to Michael Shear, “Mr. Trump and Attorney General Jeff Sessions,
who announced the change at the Justice Department, both used the aggrieved language of
anti-immigrant activists, arguing that those in the country illegally are law breakers who hurt
native-born Americans by usurping their jobs and pushing down wages” (Shear). Although Mr.
Trump stated that, America has said otherwise in a Pew Research poll that states 74% of
Americans favor the program and want the immigrants to have some legal status. Supporters of
DACA are definitely getting their views heard and as a result changes to the program are going
to be made.
Although the future of DACA is unknown, both sides of the conflict are doing whatever
they can to make changes in favor of their belief. There is even some people that have...
