Defining Marketing Paper

When someone thinks of marketing their first thought is a group of individuals sitting around thinking of ideas on how to pitch a certain product to their potential consumers. Where they think of catch phrases that will get the people thinking about their product, which an example of this would be "Think outside the bun!" That brings automatic recognition of the product to many people minds. That is what marketing wants to happen. A simply definition that I believe will cover defining marketing is trying to make a product appealing to customers by thinking up different ideas to make it happen. According to the Merriam-Webster Dictionary marketing is defined as, "a : the act or process of selling or purchasing in a market b : the process or technique of promoting, selling, and distributing a product or service." The second definition comes from Dictionary.com stated that marketing is defined as "the total of activities involved in the transfer of goods from the producer or seller to the consumer or buyer, including advertising, shipping, storing, and selling."Marketing to a company is like an online dating service to an individual. The individual may be able to find a date alone, but with an online dating service he is able to have a broader search. This is the same thing marketing does for a company, instead of finding Mr. or Ms. Right they try to find the right customers. There are four steps for companies to ensure they reach out to their customers when it comes to marketing. First they need to ask themselves if the customers will like the product. Then they would need to find out who would use the product. After those questions are answered the goal is to focus on the group of consumers which the company is trying to target. A company who produces games for Playstation 3 consoles would be wasting their money if they try to target people over the age of 60 years of age. Since most gamers are on the younger scale. Once the type of consumer is targeted the next logical step is to try and get the consumers to purchase the product.Here are three real world examples in the business world of how companies use marketing in order to succeed.The first example would be one of my favorite commercials of all time.
