Delegation Paper

757 words - 3 pages

A verse from the Bible states that one can kill a thousand but two can kill ten thousand. So it is true that when people work together to achieve common goals, their efforts can be multiplied. When there is a group of people working toward a common goal it is necessary that a manager or some other form of leader is placed in charge to plan, organize, lead, and control the direction of the group. Without someone controlling the vision of the team, the team can go disarray. This essay will focus on the responsibilities of managers in delegating the functions of management (planning, organizing, leading, and controlling) so that the company moves forward.A company’s goal is to increase revenue while decreasing cost. Without proper planning, a company is bound to fail. This is why so many short-lived internet companies failed with the dot-com bubble first in 2001 (Snell and Bateman, 2007). Of the goals management has to perform, the most important is planning. When a house is built, the first thing that is built is a foundation. When a business is starting it develops a business plan. The planning is the business’ foundation for the things they wish to see. Without a strong foundation, the execution of the actions that follow will fail.Once the foundation is laid, it is time to execute the plan by organizing people into the places needed to complete the vision. The financial, human, physical, informational and other resources are allocated out and organized to align with the goal (Snell and Bateman, 2007). One such way business organizes the employees is through affirmative action where companies hire people based on a representation of the customer market and to increase diversity (Personnel Today, 2006).Once the plan is in place, it is time for management to lead employees to the best performance possible (Snell and Bateman, 2007). Leading as a manger can involve many facets that need to be considered. The need for counsel, support, guidance, and knowledge are all parts of manager’s roles. Managers can lead by offering these things to help the employee while also offering incentives and rewards when employees outperform the standards. Management has the responsibility to engage employees to rally for the cause (Nair, 2008).Up till now the plan has been drawn out, organized, and led, and a function of...
