Delivering Lessons for All StudentShayolonda HerronAED 205 - Classroom ManagementAxia College University of PhoenixFebruary 8, 2009In order to meet every student learning need it is ultimately up to the instructor to plan an effective lesson. The teacher must create an efficient lesson plan using the inclusion criteria to meet the academic needs of special education students. When the plan is in place all students within the classroom will be able to learn the same material, but with different support strategies.I chose to implement a mathematics lesson plan for 2nd and 3rd grade students. The lesson involve math in everyday life. Students will discuss how to solve word problems involving time and money (Discovery Education, 2002). The students will work as a class to solve math problems using addition, subtraction, multiplication, and division (Discovery Education, 2002). They will also work with a partner to construct their own problem (Discovery Education, 2002). The purpose of the lesson is demonstrated to students how time and money is used in their lives daily. Students are asked how they manage their time, and how much time they use to do their everyday tasks. They will incorporate how their time reflects the use of math. The students will solve various word problems about time and money as a class (Discovery Education, 2002). Throughout the lesson the teacher use several examples and real life comparisons to assist students in understanding the use of math in their everyday life.There are several different types of special need students that are included into regular education classrooms. It is the teacher's responsibility to ensure that they understand the lesson in its entirety the same as regular education students. The important thing is to know how to modify the lesson to meet their need effectively. I am going to explain how to appropriately meet the need of students: with a language barrier, gifted, learning disabled, and attention deficit hyperactivity disorder (ADHD).A language learner is a student who speaks a language other than English. This student is mixed in a classroom with individuals who speak only English. Being merged into an environment like this is very difficult for students. It is the teachers responsibility to ensure that the student comprehend the lesson. It is vital that the instructor use methods from the Specially Designed Academic Instruction in English (SDAIE) in order for the language learner to be successful (Weinstein & Mignano, 2007, p.409). Teachers must have a positive attitude in order to effectively meet language learners' needs. During the lesson of using mathematics in our everyday lives the teacher should constantly check for understanding. This may include to use models during lectures, and to frequently ask questions to check for comprehension (Weinstein, et. al, 2007, p.409). Language barriers may learn better from visuals.
