Have you ever had a dream? Most people in the world have and do and keep them in their memory. Along with these remembered dreams, there are also deferred, or forgotten dreams. Have you ever begun to wonder what happens to said dreams? An American abolitionist and author by the name of Langston Hughes did, and such thoughts must have sparked the idea of one of his famous poems, “Dream Deferred”. In the poem, Hughes asks what happens to a forgotten dream. In reference to Langston Hughes’ poem, a dream forgotten or deferred is initially forgotten and never recovered, without dreams your life is dull and you have no imagination, and without dreams, there are no goals to reach in life.
Langston Hughes writes about what happens to forgotten dreams in his poem, “Dreams Deferred”, and one answer to this question would be that they are forgotten and never recovered by the individual. This would happen if a dream were to explode, as Langston Hughes asks if it would in his ...view middle of the document...
In the poem, “Dream Deferred”, written by the abolitionist Langston Hughes, the topic of dreams is discussed, and a topic branching off of said topic would be how dull and unimaginative life would be if all dreams were deferred like the ones mentioned in the poem. Dreams and imagination are so closely entwined, one is commonly misunderstood as the other. In, fact, in the noted poem, imagination is used. For the writer asks you to imagine things such as a raisin, when it says, “does it dry up like a raisin in the sun?”.One can regularly see kids playing pirates or being cowboys and indians, for it is their dream to become such things, and it is their imagination that gives them the pleasure instantly. Yet, if the smiling, happy kids did not have the dream, what would they have to imagine? Through this point and many others, people can argue that if all dreams were to be consigned to oblivion.
In the poem, “Dream Deferred” it talks about what happens when a dream is deferred, and without dreams there are no goals. In the poem, the line, “what happens to a dream deferred” is used and questioned. Along with the fact that without dreams there is no imagination, without dreams, there are also no goals. This is a very important aspect for if there are no goals in the world, nothing would get done. Everything people do, is to reach some sort of goal. Whether it is getting extra money for college, or putting food on the table for yourself and for your family. Everything is done to reach some sort of goal. It is clearly important to hold onto your dreams, as noted in the poem, “Dreams”.
Many things can happen to a dream when deferred or forgotten. Or maybe just one thing would happen. Three things that are known to be believed are that a deferred dream is forgotten, because of this there is no imagination, and that we shouldn’t let dreams be deferred for if they are all forgotten, there will be no goals in life. These are just three assumptions of what may happen to a forgotten or deferred dream. These may not be right, only one thing may happen, or nothing at all. It is hard for anyone to ever know for how will they know what has happened to something that they can’t think of, for they don’t remember?
