Depressants also called downers are a drug which slow down the central nervous system.Barbiturates, Benzodiazepines, Alcohol, Heroin, and Marijuna. Depressants cna be smoked, swallowed, and injected. Short term effects are slurred speech, drowsiness, low blood pressure, ect. Long term effects are addiction, sleep problems, death. Withdrawal symptoms are insomnia nausea and weekness. Tolerance can develop very quickly and then addiction.

Signs of overconsumption are slurred speech, clumsiness, slow reflexes, nausea, blacking out, redness of face or eyes. Syptoms of withdraw are nausea, uncontrolled shaking, profuse sweating, and anxiety. Alcohol effects the liver, nervous system, heart, stomach, and brain. Alcohol abuse can cause medical side effects such as high blood pressure, cancer, stomach problems.
Heroin is made from morphine which is obtained from the opium poppy. Heroin effects the brains pleasure systems and effects the brains ablility to percieve pain. Heroin can be injected in a vein, injected into muscles, smoked, mixed in a marijuana joint or cigarette, and snorted. Short term effects are a warm flushing of the skin, dry mouth, slowed or slurred speech. Long term effects can be collapsed veins, infection of the heart lining and valves, and liver disease. Heroin is very additive users grow a tolerance for the drug and will use more to get the same high the user will be at risk of a overdose. Signs of heroin abuse are wieght loss, runny nose, and infections. Signs of withdraw are intense cravings for heroin, profuse sweating, muscle and bone aches, nausea, diarrhea, ect.
Oxycontin is a type of opiate it is an opioid pain medication. It is used for moderate to severe pain. Street names for oxycontin are Killers, OC, OXY, and Oxycotton. Short term effects are respiratory depression, nauseam sedation, dizziness, headach, and dry mouth. Long term use can be tolerance, physical dependence, and compulsive behavior. People use Oxy because it is as powerful as heroin and affects teh nervous system the same way. It can be used in a variety of ways such as sniffing it, swalling the tablet grounding it up and mixing with water then injecting it.
