Starting at a very young age, almost every girl dreams to have a job that involves fashion. Ever thought it would be cool to completely makeover someone’s wardrobe and even their style like the people on the television series What Not To Wear? Yes, exactly. Image consulting is a great job for both men and women. However, it takes a lot of work. An image consultant must work with a client’s style, goals, and budgets to create a convincing and appealing image. The goal is to give people advice that will help them achieve what they want - whether it is to get a new job, to make a good impression, or simply to feel good about themselves. It is not necessary to go through a special school to become a good image consultant, but it is recommended if you want a higher salary and to get acquainted with the different responsibilities. To be a good image consultant, one must have an eye for fashion. Image consulting isn’t just a job that every girl wants, it’s a job that everybody needs!
“As long as you have the desire, you can become an image consultant. No special education or experience is necessary to break into this career and succeed.” However, there are programs and courses available in case one wants additional training. You can take courses such as health and physical education, visual arts, business, fashion, marketing and psychology. These classes will be useful throughout your entire career and they will ensure that you do well at your job in order to have a high salary. Working in retail clothing stores or beauty salons provides excellent experience. Earnings depend on experience, training, business skills, and location. Starters earn about thirty dollars an hour while more experienced consultants can get seventy dollars every hour. Working full-time also means more money. Consultants can get from twenty-five thousand to one-hundred thousand dollars annually. Although it may come naturally, even the best image consultants had to work hard in order to become good at what they’re doing.
Besides getting the right education, one also needs several skills. The most important skill is visual sense. And not just knowing the basics about clothes, an image consultant needs to know everything about modern fashion, color and style. Another skill one should have to succeed in image consulting is cosmetology. What most people don’t consider is that image is more than physical appearance.
