Description of a Great Leader
Leadership is unity of an art and a science. It is essentially needed to be sensitive to change, to make creativity and to be in progress, thus it is an art. Core values and techniques are required; thereby leadership is a science too. A number of theories have been developed about leadership and there many criterion to describe a great leader.
A leader differs from other people in some terms and this difference makes them leader. Some people believe that leaders are born, not made. However, this claim is wrong. Shared leadership model is the best option for now. Both leader and member gain from shared leadership, because they have a chance to be a leader and follower too. This allows them to understand one another’s opinions and challenges that they are facing. During this semester we tried this model and as a experienced person I can say this technique motivate people to spend their effort to do a job better and do not allow people feel isolated.
Finally, being a leader requires specific qualities that differentiate them from others. These traits (being intelligent, trustworthy, assertive, and flexible and so on) have been accepted qualities of great leader. Starting from at an early stage life teaches us lessons that we are going to apply them in the future. Who understands and assesses it well is the potential great leader of the future.
My Leadership Experience
Over the semester I had a chance to experience and learn characteristics of leadership and teamwork roles. I have been involved in different projects, but it was the first time I took part in leadership group. Main goal of leadership course was to getting acquainted with techniques of leadership and creating a social responsibility project. I and my group mates had difficulties when we started, but then we overcame these difficulties and we were able to realize our project.
Initially, I understand before doing anything you should know your group members’ character. Creating atmosphere which everyone feels free to ask and to share their opinions is also required. In the beginning of semester we divided into groups and we are supposed to realize social responsibility project. Those times were really hard, because we did not each other well, but we should do it. First meetings was challenging to me. Then we decided to make a project that dedicated to healthy life. It sounded good and all of us agreed. In every meeting or in facebook conversation we reached next goals and every part of our project completed on paper in a few months. Completing the outline was not so hard, but next step was realizing them. Firstly, we implemented “Stairs Taking Day” in inside of ADA. We encouraged others to use stairs instead of elevators.
