Wal-Mart provides jobs for more than 1.8 million Associates. Their Associates can pursue a wide variety of careers, ranging from asset protection to legal, product development to global procurement, store manager to clothing buyer, truck driver to cashier, deli manager to information system manager and more.In 2005 more than 11,000 Associates were promoted into management positions, most of which do not require a college degree. More than two-thirds of Wal-Mart's managers started their careers in hourly positions.Wal-Mart provides a first job or a second paycheck for many people, with a full range of benefits. Almost two-thirds of their Associates are full-time employees. Wal-Mart's wages are competitive with and often better than some others in the retail industry.Wal-Mart's innovative Women in Leadership and Minorities in Leadership seminars are designed to improve the leadership skills of participating members of management, and increase management knowledge of diversity best practices and inclusion in the workplace.Wal-Mart's world class personnel practices ensure nondiscriminatory treatment of Associates in hiring and selection.
