Resembling Marguerite in “Getting a Job,” I have overcome many obstacles’
with courage and determination. The main obstacle I have to handle is my health. I
have a disease called Fibromyalgia. Fibromyalgia is an autoimmune disease that
causes chronic pain and mimics the symptoms of Rheumatoid arthritis. My Fibro
was caused by a series of traumatic injuries, my first injury was an injury to my
back; that was in seventh grade. From then on my back kept getting worst and
finally led me to being diagnosed with Fibromyalgia.
My Fibromyalgia has affected my mom, my doctors, and me. With my disease
comes a lot of pain physically and emotionally. Not only does my pain affect me but
also it has upset my mom. It hurts her to see me in such bad conditions, and she
can’t do anything to help me. This illness also displeases doctors they get so
frustrated that they can’t take away my pain or help manage it.
With bad health come some benefits. I have had the opportunity to teach my
friends and family to appreciate their health and to not take it for granted. I have
gotten to show people how I persevere through the pain. When my friends and
family see me push through my pain and still have a thankful and joyful life it shows
them that they can too. I’ve also taught people how to treat those with health issues’.
I’ve showed them to not give up on people like me, and to be patient and considerate
of those who don’t have the same abilities as they do. Along with teaching other
valuable life lessons, I feel I have learned so much from having this disease. I have
learned how to have a good attitude no matter what the situation is. Moreover I am
