As a parent of a student that attends this school system, I would like to take the time to explain to you why I do not believe that incorporating intelligent design and creationism into the curriculum in our schools is a good idea, nor one that will further the intelligence of our kids but will rather, waste their time and leave them ill prepared for their futures in a university setting where the only thing that is taught is the valid truth of the Theory of Evolution.
As many people already are aware, there are many disagreements as to why evolution is not true and should not be taught to students in our schools. Most of these arguments stem from nothing but pure ignorance on the part of the person arguing for intelligent design to be taught in the school. They make arguments that the theory of evolution is full of holes, and that science teachers don’t reveal the disputation between evolution and intelligent design and also that evolution is hidden and protected from evaluation or judgment by non-believers. Out of the number of arguments that I have witnessed, the last one is by far the most farfetched. Scientists have always picked apart every theory and looked at them from each and every angle that they can be viewed from and after all of that is done, and it has not been disproven, they piece back together the remaining parts. There have been countless theories that have been decimated by the scientific method and to say it has not been used on intelligent design is a flat out falsification and one that I will not allow my son to be subjected to.
It all started with Charles Darwin, who wrote On the Origin of Species. From the initial publication of his work, he has been criticized for his theory of evolution. Beginning in the mid-1920’s, there have been many court cases over the banning of the teaching of evolution in schools and the incorporation of intelligent design into the educational system. Even today, the dispute continues, both sides battling for what they believe is right. Darwin’s theory of natural selection is among a small amount of theories that have been able to stand up to the scientific scrutiny and still remains to be holding strong to this day. If the enthusiasts of intelligent design and creationism actually had knowledge of the way they science and the scientific method functioned, I don’t believe they would be so quick to wish for their views on the subject and their theories to be put alongside the Theory of Evolution, which has been proven to stand the test of time. For as long as Charles Darwin’s theory has been tested, which is over one hundred and fifty years, I can certainly say that I will not require that length of time to pick apart intelligent design. In fact, I’m sure I can explain it fully by the time I have finished this paper.
The point that I am about to prove is how to identify and fully discredit a theory that has absolutely no scientific basis whatsoever. Teaching our children to dismantle...
