Diary Entry: Revenge And Christians Essay

941 words - 4 pages

Diary entry 1)
How could this be? Deceived by my daughter! As soon as Tubal informed me that my daughter had fled, I felt angry yet heartbroken. It was like my own daughter pierced a finely sharpened arrow into my skin, aiming at by hopeless heart.
Jessica playing "thirty pieces of silver" (Matthew 26:15) upon her own father? "I say, my daughter is my flesh and blood" (Act 3.i. 33) but her doings wrong me. "Hath not a Jew eyes... hurt with the same weapons, subject to the same diseases, healed by the same means... as a Christian is?" (Act 3.i.52-58).
I can remember crystal clearly the time that Bassanio fellow approached me and requested for 3,000 ducats. Me, a Jew? Bassanio had to be distressed and this could be easily acknowledged by his face. So much tension and worry. He was as desperate as an ice cube in hell.
Firstly, I reflected that the loan could not be a large sum due to Bassanio's extravagant spending habits however, the statement of the loan being under the name of Antonio led to the enhancement of the complexion on my face. That scoundrel Antonio! The one who humiliated me in public and resents my religion. The sinner chooses to come to a Jew at the time of his need.
After my continuous repetition of the details of the bond, I thought...
