Die Bybelse Skeppingsverhaal, soos in Genesis 1 en 2, handel oor hoe die onsienlike God (Elohim) die aarde geskep het binne ‘n kwessie van dae. Hy het die hemel en aarde geskep en ook alles daarop. Die tydperk wat dit geneem het om die aarde te skep word na verwys as 6 dae. In die ou perspektiewe word dit letterlik bedoel as ses 24 uur periodes, maar in nuwe perspektiewe word daarna verwys dat die 6 dae as figuurlik beskou moet word omrede dit selfs eeue kon gewees het.God se betrokkenheid in die skeppingsproses en die feit dat dinge nie net deur middel van onverstaanbare natuurlike prosesse tot standkoming gebring is nie word in die Bybelse Skeppingsverhaal beklemtoon. God was aktief besig vir ses aaneenlopende dae tydens die skepping van die heelal. Die bybelse skeppingsverhaal kan ook nie in geologiese of astronomiese tydsbegrippe vasgevat word nie. Die Bybelse Skeppingsverhaal dui duidelik daarop dat God die woorde gespreek het en die heelal tot stand gekom het as gevolg hiervan. Hy het gesê “laat daar lig wees” en daar was lig. Die mens was verantwoordelik om vir die diere name te gee en het dus gesag oor hulle gehad. In die Bybelse Skeppingsverhaal word daarop klem gelê dat alles insluitend die mens van die begin af bestaan het. Die wêreld beskik oor ‘n doel net soos wat alles biine in die heelal ‘n rede het vir sy ontstaan. Alles is deel van God se groot plan.
