If I had a time machine, I would want to go to a very famous time 67 million years ago. Although no humans were living during that time, I still want to see how different earth was during that time so I could confirm and add to the overall knowledge about the dinosaurs.
The Cretaceous time period was the last time period in which dinosaurs are seen. This time period spanned from 144 million years ago (mya) to 66 mya; right after the Jurassic time period and before the Tertiary. This is a time when dinosaurs were at their height with many thousands of different species known or yet to be identified. Our earliest ancestors were small rodent-like mammals that lived during this time and gradually evolved into the many different types of mammals we see today. This was called the K-T extinction. By going to the Cretaceous I would be able to tell exactly what caused the extinction of the dinosaurs.
After “oohing” and “ahhing” at all the eye-catching and mysterious vegetation and organisms that lived during that time, I would then finally remember my mission for coming to the Cretaceous time period-completing Mrs. Norling’s homework. Quickly I would read the first question, “Discover a type of dinosaur that many other scientists have not found yet.” Looking around I found many types of dinosaurs and other animals that I could not identify. But after when I looked at the manual the teacher gave each of us, I found out that all the dinosaurs here have been discovered and that I have to move somewhere else to find a brand new one. Finally after searching for what felt like an eon, I finally found a brand-new type of dinosaur. This dinosaur will have three rows of serrated teeth, which would’ve easily sliced and diced any other dinosaur or organisms that it chose to eat. Its whole body will be covered in herculean-sized muscles and its arms will be the exact opposite of the Tyrannosaurus rexes’; this new dinosaur’s arms are very elongated while the T-rex’ are miniscule. I will quickly take a picture of it and fly far, far away from it. I will then name the monster killosaurus and send it to my teacher. By doing this, I will be able to add to our knowledge about the different species of dinosaurs.
After, I will then look at the second problem on Mrs. Norling’s worksheet, “Make more accurate measurements on existing dinosaurs.” I will know that the measurements on the physical size of the dinosaurs are limited to only the skeletons of the dinosaur’s body so the measurements aren’t very accurate. If I were to go back in time, I would be able make very precise calculations about the size and weight of many dinosaurs from when they were just hatched to when they are at their prime and then when they are very old. I will then send all of the collected data to my teacher.
