I believe that all Americans are entitled to receive healthcare services at reasonable prices. Many U.S. politicians realize that the high number of uninsured individuals is a serious problem and healthcare reform is needed to make insurance more accessible (Jost, 2011). Representative Paul Ryan put forth the “Roadmap for America’s Future” in the proposed 2012 Republican budget, which was their alternative to the Affordable Care Act (ACA) (Jost, 2011). Jost (2011) reveals the two plans are similar with few distinct differences. Furthermore, he explains the Republican plan would require only basic health services, such as hospitalization and catastrophic care to be included in health insurance policies, while the ACA mandates more comprehensive plans. Finally, the Republican plan moves the majority of the costs to the states, versus the ACA, which holds the Federal government more responsible for the costs (Jost, 2011). Americans show support for various parts of both plans, so there is a good chance the future of U.S. health reform will be found somewhere in the middle (Jost, 2011).

The ACA strives to establish a sustainable insurance market and increase competition by improving cost-effectiveness and quality of services provided (Custer, 2013). However, there are some concerns that the ACA will have to deal with now that the regulations are legal. Ghosh (2013) estimates that there will be 30 million newly insured patients within the healthcare system and there could be a shortage of primary care providers to take care of the influx, leading to long wait times for primary care services. Additionally, the ACA increases the percentage of the adjusted gross income for deducting medical expenses from 7.5% to 10% (Eastman & Eastman, 2013)....
