Divergent Is Cool Essay

782 words - 4 pages

There comes a time when everyone wakes up at some point in their life and thinks "I need to be a more genuine and considerate person." Maybe they'll acheive it, although in most cases that winsome act is only pursued for so long before the upholder can no longer endure the urge to execute a little selfishness or a few authoritarian acts. In Divergent, Veronica Roth develops a society divided into five sections, or factions, that each admire a certain characteristic. This idea was implemented in order to enforce a peaceful, humane civiliaztion. Although, exploring two or three factions within their walls helps determine unauthorized rivalry between factions, proving that humans can stay neither amicable nor gratifying for very long.
In the first place, humans are a very complicated species. There are countless fables, myths, and stories that refer to how negative feelings and actions came to be cursed upon the mortal beings of Earth. The truth of why this happened is unknown, but this calamity can never be lifted. All people have a multitude of various emotions, unable to control them for their entire life. Therefore, attempting to coerce a whole civilization to admire a certain charateristic is implausible. There's a throng of characters in Divergent that do not maintain their benevolence for long before 'desperation' takes over and the evil seeps back in. For example Albert, or Al, is one of the most compassionate transfers in this book. When he receives a low ranking in one of the final initiations, he gets drawn into a malicious plan to attempt to make Tris want to quit, or possibly kill her. The righteousness of Al didn't last long, for he committed suicide shortly after not receiving forgiveness from Tris. However, when Tris heard about Four giving Al's allys a memorable beating, she said, "It isn't right to wish pain on other people just because they hurt me first. (Ch. 22)" So, she was one of the truest characters in this book.
In some cases, a few of the characters put on a facade to cover true, copious viciousness. In a similar case, Eric, a malevolent mastermind, is never particularly kind to the transfers, or anyone for that matter. Hence, when he spoke sympathetically and made Al out to be a brave member of Dauntless at Al's...
