Do you think homeschooling is expensive? Well you are about to find out a lot about homeschooling in this paper. There are a lot of people that are being homeschooled in our country, because their parents believe that public schools have a poor learning environments. According to NHES survey, thirty percent of parents believe that homeschooling is better (“ Homeschooling”). Public school doesn't teach the same amount of information as they do in homeschooling.

For a variety of reason, these parents believe that they can provide an equal or superior educational experience at home (“Colb”). Yet even parents who homeschool their children have begun to recognize the benefits of group after school activities. And increasingly, they have become interested in taking advantage to children enrolled at public schools (“Colb”).

One argument that homeschoolers make in favor of access to extracurricular offerings is simple: They, too, pay the taxes that finance the public school enterprise. Therefore, they claim, they are entitled to take advantage of the school’s offering to the extent that they and their children are interested in doing so. Paying taxes is not the equivalent of paying tuition for public school. They say, further, that their decision to educate their children at home saves public schools money (“Bittner”).

There are several problems with this theory. First of all, testing has not been proven to improve education in the public schools. In fact, many teachers complain that it is hurting education. In the desperate push to teach children the shallow skills measured by the tests, real learning is eliminated. Children in some areas are not even getting recess because there isn’t time (“Bittner”).
