E04 Guidance and Discipline
For the scenario below - Determine the cause of the behavior. Provide one (1) supporting fact to justify your answer. Develop a guidance approach that you might use to address the cause of the behavior. Provide one (1) supporting fact to justify your approach.
3-year-old Tommy is crying and upset because he can’t draw a truck like Sam’s.
Age-Typical Behavior, Tommy’s behavior shows he gets frustrated when he faces a challenge, which can make it a bit upsetting for him to enjoy an activity he really takes interest in. This is stated as typical behavior for 3 year olds, they are getting a sense of who they are while at the same time trying to do what their peer is doing. I believe with the right guidance and assistance he can learn to help control his emotions.
His teacher should make observation of when Tommy has this outburst. After she makes observation she should then make an assessment and following that assessment should be some type of guidance and approach. By doing this she is showing Tommy that she cares about how he feels and wants to help him. She should also provide reassurance to Tommy that his truck is just as good as Sam’s. She could also point out the things his truck has that Sam’s truck doesn’t have. More importantly I think just emphasizing and praising his efforts in drawing the Truck.
