Eat Right For Your Type Essay

1553 words - 6 pages

Axia College of University of PhoenixEating right for your type is one of the most personal diets. People have been using the “Eat Right 4 Your Blood Type” diet for many years now; however, some have not used it consecutively over these years. Blood type determines how a person should eat to be healthy. Participants were introduced to this diet through studies conducted by Dr. Peter J. D’Adamo. According to Dr. Peter J. D’Adamo’s website, “A second generation naturopathic doctor, Dr. D'Adamo has been practicing naturopathic medicine for over 20 years. Best known for his research on human blood groups and nutrition, Dr. D'Adamo is also a well-respected researcher in the field of natural products” ( One of the rare blood types is a type O or the hunter as the book “Eat Right 4 Your Blood Type” refers to. Reading about the blood types and their differences is very interesting. There are many specifics to each diet, not only affecting what food people normally eat but what exercise and supplements are best for each individual. This diet is not really a diet; it is more like a lifestyle. It does not promise quick results but is something that over time will balance out a persons’ body and provide the health people desire. The diet even goes into personality differences between the blood types and the evolutionary benefits. The diet also lists disease risks that a particular blood type could encounter in his or her life. It is interesting that type O’s tend to have low thyroid production, this can lead to many metabolic problems. The diet therefore lists foods that block thyroid absorption and informs people to stay away from them. This can be used as an advantage in strengthening a thyroid. Once the thyroid is strengthened, improvements in the metabolism can be noticed. Most people that start this diet and practice a strict regimen have experienced weight loss of fifty pounds or more within a year. Some participant’s are not completely satisfied with the weight lost but do notice a change. A big difference between type O’s and the other more “civilized” types is that they are meat eaters. Type O’s, as they were first in line in the evolutionary chain of mankind are the most primitive types, eating red meat and fruits and vegetables. In other words type O’s do best on a high protein diet. This is by no means an excuse to overload oneself on meat. A real hunter knows that food is not always plentiful. What type O’s are not allowed to have is of course all of the things one may love, wheat products, dairy and just about anything made by man. Type O’s digestive systems can handle very little, which for most, have had digestive issues since they were infants. Some type O’s have a gluten sensitivity which coincides with the diet’s rule of not eating wheat products. Milk and cheese also disagree with type O, so as implausible as this...
