It ties together both the creative and technical aspects of the internet, including design, development, advertising and marketing." (Wikimedia Foundation, Inc., 2007). Two companies internet marketing techniques will be reviewed, OfficeDepot.com and eBay.com, identifying their difference and their similarities.Office Depot"Office Depot, Inc. is a global supplier of office products and services." The company offers 4 ways to shop: (1) Online at OfficeDepot.com, (2) By contacting an 800 number, (3) Faxing an order into a designate 800 number and lastly (4) Various retail locations. The company's emphasis is through OfficeDepot.com, which is an online version of their paper catalog, the company supports numerous websites accommodating a wide array of countries, enabling sales through out the world. Office Depot, Inc. corporate offices are located in Delray Beach, Florida and in 2006 generated $15 billion in sales to business, as well as to consumers.Office Depot, Inc. has utilized a variety of internet marketing techniques that have worked well for the company's growth in eBusiness. Search engine results have been the most beneficial to the company, ensuring exposure as a top sponsored site based on specified search criteria that is inputted by the user, if the a user searches for "office supplies" on Google.com OfficeDepot.com is returned as the first link on the page in a highlighted section for sponsors in which the users eyes are immediately drawn to.Office Depot, Inc. has also made good use of web ads that appear through out OfficeDepot.com as well as banner ads that can be found on external sites such as HP. Office Depot, Inc. may have explored options of ad placement on certain partnered sites and/or the company may have entered into an agreement with a third party vendor which hosts ads randomly on multiple vendors. On occasion the company may have a pop ad that will appear on their site promoting a online special or incentive to place an order.Email marketing has also been implemented in which users are able to sign up opt in for regular email communications from the company.
