It’s January 19, 1809 Edgar Poe is Born in Boston, Massachusetts to Elizabeth Poe and David Poe Jr. William Henry Leonard Poe (usually went by Henry) was Edgar’s older brother. On December 20, 1810 Rosalie (also called Rosie or Rose) Poe was born in Norfolk, Virginia. Almost a year later on December 8, 1810 their mother Elizabeth dies in Richmond, Virginia the cause of her death is unknown but suggestion states the pneumonia was a possible cause of death. Then within a few days of his wife, (supposedly on December 10) David Poe Jr., their father dies. So Edgar is taken in by John and Frances Allan which never legally adopt him but he still calls them his parents. In 1814 Poe begins at the age of five, the beginning of his formal education with his teacher Clotilda or Elizabeth Fisher at the school of Mr. William Ewing. On June 22, 1815 John and Frances Allan with Edgar and Frances’s Younger sister, Ann Fisher moves to England on the Lothair. One year later Edgar began the school of Misses Dubourge, while there Edgar is known as Master Poe. While attending Misses Dubourge school, he took classes on geography and spelling. Then in 1818 Poe moved again to the Manor House School and he is known as Edgar Allan, some of the studies he took were Dance, Latin, and possibly Greek. In 1820 Poe and his family returns to America from England aboard the Martha, They stopped in New York then continued to Richmond, Virginia. Then a year later he attends The School of Joseph H. Clarke. At the age of 14, Poe begins the School of William Burke, and a year later he swam from six to seven miles upstream in the James River against the strong tide, his school master following in a boat in case he needed help. The first poem Edgar wrote was at the age of 15. He wrote a two lined poem that stated “Last night, with many cares & toils oppres‘d, Weary, I laid me on a couch to rest”. Then at the age of 16, Edgar moved to the school of Dr. and Mrs. Ray Thomas. Poe began the University of Virginia. In December 1826, Poe returned to Richmond to find the love of his life, Elmira Royster, engaged to Alexander Shelton. Since Elmira’s parents didn't approve of the marriage of Edgar and Elmira, they found Alexander a more wealthy man more to their liking. ...
