Over the years, the rate of people becoming obese are increasing. This fact has affected the lives of many people. When people are not as fit or skinny as their peers, they start to have some self-esteem issues. Adults are feeling the pressure to lose weight, even teenagers are getting distressed. For example, most women care about what others think of them; therefore, when someone calls them fat, they would begin to have doubts about their bodies and feel insecure. Generally, the first idea people get when they think of losing weight would be dieting. They think that if they cut back on food and try to limit themselves then they would lose weight. However, this method is considered to be very unhealthy. There can be bad side effects that can cause harm to the person and even their families. If people really wanted to get back in good shape, it is recommended that they start taking actions during their early adulthood. Overweight people between the ages of 20 and 30 who are planning to go on diets should resort to exercising and getting the proper nutrition they need so they can become stronger and healthier.

There are many consequences to dieting; however, the most important thing people should be concerned about is how this can affect their health physically. In the article, How crash diets can harm your health, Cardiologist Isadore Rosenfeld explained, “crash diets can weaken your immune system and increase your risk of dehydration, heart palpitations, and cardiac stress” (Miller). People never really take the time to think about how dieting could harm them and what consequences they would have to pay later in their lifetime. Not eating enough can cause a person to lose much of their energy and causing them and their bodies to feel weak. Without the energy, their bodies will begin to burn the tissues of their vital organs, for example, their brain, kidney, heart, or liver; this will cause the organs to function inefficiently. Thus, when people starve themselves repeatedly, their risk of heart attacks increases; liver and kidney failures will also occur. If people stop dieting, it will be beneficial in improving their physical health and help them to live a better life.

Dieting not only affects people’s physical health, it also affects their mental health significantly.
