The Earth is getting hotter every year. Global warming has caused the Earth to get hotter every year since the 1800’s (Blashfield). Global Warming is an increase in temperature over the years (David). An excess of greenhouse gases, such as carbon dioxide, in the Earth’s atmosphere causes this phenomenon. Carbon dioxide acts like a blanket around the atmosphere that traps all of the heat that originally goes in from the sun. With all the extra heat that is being kept in the atmosphere, the Earth’s surface eventually gets hotter. Many habitats are changing due to this and animals have to adapt to these changes in order to survive.
There are ways to prevent or slow down global warming. As ...view middle of the document...
One of these technologies is solar energy. Solar energy is energy that is produced by the Sun’s radiation waves (Gore). This is a way to get electricity by using the power of the Sun. Another alternative technology we could use is wind turbines (“Disadvantages of Wind Energy”). They are machines that use the wind to generate electricity.
Effects of Global Warming
Global warming is happening to our Earth and the signs are everywhere. Think of the polar ice caps as a block of ice and think of seconds as years. When you put the block of ice on some cement, then the ice starts to melt. As you can see the “polar ice caps” melt rapidly every “year”. If the Earth stays the way it is and we continue to waste energy, such as using electricity when it is not needed or driving somewhere that is not too far away, then eventually the ice caps will melt. If the icecaps keep melting, the animals that live near or on the icecaps will be in danger (Simon). If their natural habitat disappears they would not be able to adapt fast enough to the new environment and die.
Another effect of global warming is stronger hurricanes. Global warming would not make the hurricanes but it would make them stronger (David). Also, in the near future, temperatures during the day would be scorching hot. If it comes to this, no one would be able to go outside without protective clothes to shield them from the heat of the Sun. If no one or anything is able to go out then farmers’ crops would burn and no one would have any food. Further, the high level of carbon dioxide could trigger many allergies and worsen asthma. Plants such as ragweeds and pinecones would produce more pollen (David). The heat will also bring many widespread diseases affecting many people around the world. Insects such as mosquitoes and tsetse flies carry these diseases. Because of global warming, they are spreading to places all over the world (Gore, 127). This is increasing the chances of getting diseases such as malaria or yellow fever.
Although not everyone agrees, there are some good effects of global warming. One of the benefits is excessive tidal wave energy ("Tidal Power"). This can be used as new renewable energy to charge many of the basic things we use. Another benefit of the warmer weather is warmer winters. These warmer winters would contribute to fewer...
