Objectives:

* Eight Grade Mathematics State Curriculum Standards:

o Standard 6.0 - Number Relationship and Computation- Students will describe, represent, or apply numbers or their relationships or will estimate or compute using mental strategies, paper/pencil or technology.

o Standard 7.0 Processes of Mathematics- Students demonstrate the processes of mathematics by making connections and applying reasoning to solve problems and to communicate their findings.

* Maryland Technology Literacy Standards for Students:

o Standard 3.0 – Technology for Learning and Collaboration: Use a variety of technologies for learning and collaboration

o Standard 4.0 – Technology for Communication and Expression: Use technology to communicate information and express ideas using various media formats

o Standard 5.0 – Technology for Information Use and Management: Use technology to locate, evaluate, gather, and organize information and data.

o Standard 6.0 – Technology for Problem-Solving and Decision-Making: Demonstrate ability to use technology and develop strategies to solve problems and make informed decisions

Project and Classroom Outcomes:

* Students will be able to create and solve mathematical word problems using number relationships and computation

* Students will be able to research using internet search engines to apply to solving the word problems

* Students will be able to use Web 2.0 technology tools to connect and communicate with other students globally

* Student Handbook:

o Print the signature page that states students and parent understands the technology uses in the classroom

* Student's Assignment Page:

o Print the page or reference the online page for students to use to complete the project

* Rubrics:

o Print the page that will be used to assess students

* Computer Lab/Mobile Lab/Internet/Computer Access-1 per student:

o Students will use the computer to research for clues to solve the word problems

o Students will explore the internet to acquire details to include in their own created word problems

o Students will use the approved search engines to locate information

o Students will use an online website to share their word problems and solutions

o Students must have access to the computers at least seven days to complete assignments related to the project

o This will be used to project your screen to share website links and other important information

o Students will use the email account to register and log onto the website
