Exodus and Aurelia friendship constitutes a haze of in depth conversations, weekend walks through backwards paths , and snickering students judging their impromptu musical performances. Their friendship is the look on Exodus’s face when Aurelia miss interprets another piece of her friends choreography. Their friendship is the long nights the share in the hospital, Exodus never leaving Aurelia’s bed side. Their friendship is Aurelia’s shrug when her acceptance from Harvard arrives. Her sigh followed by her resolve not to enter their law program, as not to leave her friend. It’s the faked encouragement Exodus gives, as she convinces Aurelia to not turn down her dream. Their friendship is the exchanged smile, and promises of staying in touch they give as they go their separate ways.
At Harvard, the rumour mill is always running. This week, the name dancing on pretentious, expensively educated lips is that of Political Science Major Kari Blake– and unlike the majority of students, Aurelia fails to see such a novelty in their vicious, although truthful, words. Aurelia’s roommates talk about how she will take everything from you, your independence, your kisses, your life. Aurelia let’s it slide, when a few months into their relationship, Kari arrives through the couples shared window at obscene hours in the morning with tousled hair, swollen lips, and an others perfume that reveal what she has been doing. Aurelia takes her pills, and pretends not to notice. The entire situation becomes routine, and after six months the cheating, betrayal, and controlling nature of Kari overshadow any amount of enjoyment their relationship once provided. But Kari always convinces Aurelia to stay, saying she’ll change, be better. She kisses Aurelia, and Aurelia can’t help but believer her, wants to believe her. After a few days the routine resumes as normal.

The musical itself is emotional, and well written- Exodus loves nothing more to bring movement to those words. Before she could even register the gravity of what was happening, the musical is on Broadway, and she is getting a tony for choreography, all before reaching the legal drinking age. Exodus wanted nothing more than to share this moment with her friend, and although Aurelia’s congratulations were told over skype, and a bouquet of her favorite flowers on her doorstep, they couldn’t quite...
