The type of engineering that generally deals with the study and application of electricity, electronics, and electromagnetism is Electrical Engineering. After electricity was founded by Benjamin Franklin at the end of the eighteen hundreds this field began to emerge and only after the invention of the integrated circuit electronics could become affordable and could be used in almost any household object. New inventions such as the television, the microwave, and later on the personal computer revolutionized society.

An electrical engineer should build a foundation on basic courses such as calculus, physics, and chemistry, as well as computer science and mechanical engineering. The Fundamentals of Engineering (FE) exam, also referred to as the Engineer in Training (EIT) exam, and formerly in some states as the Engineering Intern (EI) exam, are the first of two examinations that engineers must pass in order to be licensed as a Professional Engineer in the United States. The exam is open to anyone with a degree in engineering or a related field, or currently enrolled in the last year of an accredited engineering degree program. To enter into a graduate program for electrical engineering the average minimum scores expected are range from 350 to 500 (new exam 114 to 163) on the verbal section and 500 to 700 (new exam 110 to 155) on the quantitative section. There is a minimum Undergraduate upper-division grade point average of 3.00 on a scale of 4.00. Three letters of reference/recommendation from faculty of the university where you received your degree is also required along with a Statement of Purpose.
