Electronic Health Record
The bases of electronic health records are a digital version of paper charts, the information that is contain on the EHR, is the patent’s medical and treatment histories; which includes medical history, diagnoses, medications, treatment plans, immunization dates, allergies, radiology images, and laboratory and test results. One key advantage is the medical information through a network is available at your finger tips, when patients visit the office often times they can’t remember the names of new medicine, testing or upcoming testing that their children are taking. Being able to access electronically can help provide higher quality and safer care for patients while creating tangible enhancements for the organization. There are many key advantages to using EHR’s; accurate, clear, up-today medical information, and effective diagnosis, which can help, reduce medical errors. With EHR provider’s notes are legible and documentation can be completed quickly. Another advantage with EHR’s is the data that is collected can be used to identify patient risk of disease.
Health Care Technology Today
Today the Mayo Clinic has reached far beyond its outpatient location to include hospitals, research clinics, and medical schools, as well as affiliated partner clinics and medical facilities in nearby states. According to the Mayo Clinic Study the network has span to many facilities and states. Today’s technology is very advanced and has aided in the diagnosis as well as care of patient. One latest technology advance is an Implantable Cardioverter Defibrilator (ICD), which is used to treat an irregular heartbeat, it detects the electrical pulse of the heart and if the heart beat is not regular it will delivery a shock to the heart. It was design to help control life-threatening arrhythmias or sudden cardiac arrest (NIH 2011). This device is about the size of a coin purse and the recovery time from the surgery is a few days with no place hand over your head for six weeks.
