Energy Sources Of The Future Essay

943 words - 4 pages

“We won’t have a society if we destroy the environment”- Margaret Mead. As the world’s population rapidly grows, alternative energy sources are essential to the vigor of our environment. Coal, oil, and natural gas are the most used sources of energy today. But according to Energy News “Our current rate of fossil fuel usage will lead to an energy crisis this century. In order to survive the energy crisis, many companies in the energy industry are inventing new ways to extract energy from renewable sources.” The future vitality of the environment will be derived from wind power, geothermal energy, biomass, nuclear energy, solar energy and the most important source: hydropower. These renewable ...view middle of the document...

This may include any plant or animal matter. The “Production of biomass is a growing industry as interest in sustainable fuel sources is growing” (“Future Energy”). This is a reliable source of energy because biological matter will always be a part of the environment. The New Hope Power Partnership is an example of a biomass plant in North America.
Nuclear energy is a form of renewable energy that is derived from atomic nuclei via controlled nuclear fission reactions. This process reduces carbon emissions and dependence on foreign oil. Many argue if this is a form of renewable energy, but scientists have found a way to use nuclear energy without having adverse effects on the environment. For example, using thorium in power plants minimizes the dangers of nuclear reactors. According to the World Nuclear Association on average every five days one nuclear reactor will be functioning by 2015 as opposed to the 1980s when, on average, one reactor starting up every 17 days (Frater, Top 10 Renewable Energy Sources”).
A very important source of renewable energy is solar energy. Solar energy results by using a process called photovoltaic, this process generates electricity by channeling the suns energy into panels made from silicon or copper. These panels are usually placed in the desert to capture the suns energy, but are also used residentially as an inexpensive alternative to regular electricity by installing panels on the roof of buildings. The government offers incentives for installing solar energy component because they are contribute to the economy, and have nearly no environmental impact.
The most important renewable source of energy is hydropower, and it is the most widely used form of renewable energy. Hydropower is created from the gravitational force of moving water. Once hydropower regions are created they create virtually no direct waste,...

Renewable Energy: The Future of Energy

1052 words - 4 pages fuels, renewable energy sources must be adopted to maintain the economic growth and development and to maintain the environment and prevents more risks of global warming. As it is stated by Turner (687) “we cannot continue to burn fossil fuels and somehow sequester the produced CO2 efficiently enough to actually address global warming.”Renewable energy is energy generated from natural sources, and it provides a clean, and feasible long-term

Nuclear Energy: The Future of Energy Production

1764 words - 7 pages Hydroelectricity and Solar Energy are also being implemented, but are too costly to keep up, have a high rate of waste if ever they fail, and don’t have nearly enough energy output to sustain large populations. We will soon be required to convert to more efficient forms of thermal engines and safer nuclear energy, otherwise we will run out of energy due to inefficiencies in the sources we are using now. Should safer nuclear plants be implemented

The Future of Coal Energy

2376 words - 10 pages emissions need to be cut. It seems that cutting emissions will also result in cutting coal and other fossil fuel energies. The only question remaining is the availability and efficiency of alternative energy. We must find a way to deal with climate change, air pollution, and energy insecurity. Alternative energy, often called “Green Energy” consists of renewable energy sources, such as hydropower, nuclear power, solar power, and wind power. If coal

Alternative Sources of Energy

871 words - 3 pages technology today is opening new doors in the energy field that are likely to change the way we think about energy. With so many different sources of energy that are prevalent around the world, the challenge is found in harvesting and securing the energy at its source, and doing so in an efficient manner. I decided to do some research about possible future sources of energy, and my search turned up some interesting results. One of the

The Future of Coal Energy

2432 words - 10 pages . The IPCC concludes that human activity is the cause of climate change, just as smoking causes cancer. The increasing living standards of industrialized nations are resulting in an increased use of coal energy. Along with the growing population, coal is being used at extravagant rates and increasing. Unfortunately, coal poses a threat to the future of humanity, and we are the direct cause (Richardson, 2014). Global warming is threatening to

Renewable Energy: The Way of the Future

1649 words - 7 pages PHASE 2: NUTRITION 714 Renewable Energy: The Way of The Future By Robert Hudson   Pollution and global warming are at the forefront of every ecologist and environmentalist minds these days. In addition, many nations across the globe have taken necessary steps in order to reduce their own carbon footprint on this planet. One of those possible measures is using a cleaner source of energy supply, rather than relying on fossil fuels such as

Geothermal Energy: The Alternative of the Future

2132 words - 9 pages Geothermal Energy: The Alternative of the Future When the energy crisis hit Americans in the 1970's, people were scrambling to find ways to conserve energy. The crisis brought to attention the very real shortage of fossil fuels. Gas and oil prices skyrocketed, and Americans looked for ways to save energy. They started producing smaller cars, driving less, and turning down their thermostats. Also, they started to examine alternate energy

Alternative Sources of Renewable Energy

1687 words - 7 pages sources takes time but by doing this, it will help our environment for the future and for us now. Prices of something new or newly re-introduced are higher when compared to products that have been around for years. Price reduction of using renewable energy occurs once the research and technology is complete. Although killing birds is a setback when using wind turbines, there are many animals that die and have died because of fossil fuels as well

Using Renewable Sources of Energy

760 words - 4 pages approximately one hundred percent of our country. These precious and un-renewable sources (fossil fuel and crude oil) are becoming scarce and we are running out of them expeditiously. Therefore, many countries have taken the initiative to move toward renewable energy such as wind energy, solar energy, and hydropower energy. We must learn from others. The major benefit of these forms of energy is that they are renewable; consequently, they will not

Solar Power: The Future of Energy

1808 words - 7 pages economically efficient to switch everything to solar energy. Solar energy is capable of becoming the world's future power supply because, it is renewable, eco-friendly, and extremely efficient when strategically placed. Solar energy is clean energy that does not affect our environment. Solar power utilizes the sun’s energy to produce electricity, unlike other sources of energy, which rely on continual mining for raw materials. Consequently, producing

Fusion is The Future of Energy

1737 words - 7 pages Fusion is The Future of Energy Abstract: Fusion energy is the same energy that provides the power for that of our sun and other stars. An example of Fusion energy is when two separate hydrogen atoms combine to form one helium atom. In this process some of the mass of the hydrogen is converted into energy. This energy is very powerful and is considered inexhaustible by the scientific community. But the ability to control this energy seems to
